FM22 challenge where you’ll need to match the success of a local rival
club.
But most of these cities have a second or a third club, which haven’t enjoyed the success and have lived in the shadow of their more rich and famous neighbours.
In this Football Manager 2022 challenge, we will explore 4 of these clubs, and we will challenge you to take over and make them match the success of their local rivals.
Everton
Despite being historically one of England’s most successful football clubs,
Everton
have had a tough few decades. To make matters worse, they have been living in
the shadow of local rivals,
Liverpool. At least last season, Everton finally managed to win 2-0 at Anfield for the
first time since 1999.
Everton have an expensively assembled yet talented squad. Players like Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Lucas Digne will be key fixtures in the first team. However, the players beyond the first XI are weaker. Adding to the problems is that the club’s financial situation is not ideal, so selling players will be necessary. Therefore, maybe it would be best to look to the youth setup, which has provided the likes of Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley in recent times.
A long list of managers from Moyes to Ancelotti have tried to bring the Blues out of the rut. Are you the one to bring a once-mighty Everton back to their glory days and overtake the neighbours in FM 2022?

Torino
In the 1940’s ‘Il Grande Torino’ won five consecutive titles before
this success tragically came to an abrupt end in 1949 when their entire squad
died in a plane crash. Since that fateful day, Torino have only won the Serie
A title once back in 1976. Nowadays, local rivals
Juventus
have become a global powerhouse, while
Torino
still remain a more locally supported club.
Last season, Torino finished just one place above the relegation zone, and this season could be similar. However, Torino do have some good players with the likes of Swiss fullback Ricardo Rodriguez and powerful Italian striker Andrea Belotti. Former AC Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi once said of Bellotti, “God didn’t bless him with huge talent, but with greater values like generosity, enthusiasm and passion.”

Despite this harsh assessment, he has been compared to Gianluca Vialli.
Meanwhile, youngster Wilfried Singo has recently become a fixture in the first
team at fullback and looks to be a good option for the long term.
Overthrowing Juventus from their throne in FM 22 with Torino may seem like an impossible mission, but with a little luck, good youth drive and successful manoeuvring in the transfer window, you might just succeed.
40 years before
Bayern Munich
came into existence; there was another club founded in Munich. TSV 1860
Munchen or 1860 Munich are a founder member of the Bundesliga (two years
before Bayern first played in the league). However, times have been tough
recently for 1860, having spent 17 years away from the German top flight. 1860
now play in the German third-tier light years behind their more illustrious
rivals.
The current squad seems to be quite strong and ready to compete in the 3. Liga. In spite of his age, Sascha Mölders is still a proven goal scorer who will lead the line well. Meanwhile, Dennis Dressel is the heartbeat of the side. The young midfielder looks like he can play at a higher level; whether that’s with 1860 or elsewhere, it is down to you.

Espanyol
Our last team on this list is living in the shadow of
FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol have spent much of their recent existence in the mid-table of
La Liga. However, last season was spent in La Segunda Division after the
club’s first relegation for 26 years. Now being back in the top flight.
Espanyol will compete el derbi against FC Barcelona again. This match
is Espanyol’s most important game every season, while Barcelona consider
El Clasico
to be theirs due to the club’s relative positions. Getting Espanyol in a
position in which FC Barcelona feel that local rivals are a strong opposition
will be some challenge.
Raul de Tomas is the club’s star striker and has been linked to the Premier League. At the same time, former Sevilla and Barcelona man Aleix Vidal provides talent and experience to the lineup. 39-year-old goalkeeper Diego Lopez is still a mainstay between the sticks. Replacing the former Real Madrid man will be a matter of urgency.
