Who are FM26 wonderkids?

In Football Manager 2026, a wonderkid is a young player with the potential to develop into a top player. Some are ready for your first team; others need regular football, good coaching and a clear route into the side. This shortlist brings those prospects together by position, so you can scout for the role you actually need.

FM26 Wonderkids · FAQ

What exactly is a wonderkid in FM26?
A highly talented young player with elite Potential Ability who can become a top professional if you develop him properly. Age alone does not make a wonderkid - ceiling, role fit and progression do.
What ages count as wonderkids?
Usually 15 to 20. Once a player turns 21 he can still be elite, but he is rarely labelled a wonderkid.
What do ABI and POT mean?
ABI is FMB Ability, our measure of current quality. POT is FMB Potential, our measure of a player's ceiling. Both are on the FM Blog 1–99 scale, not raw in-game CA or PA. Training, game time, mentoring and injuries influence development.
Is PA fixed or dynamic in FM26?
Most elite talents have a fixed PA. Plenty of youths use a negative PA range that resolves on save creation. Development still relies on your environment and minutes.
What do the rating colours mean?
Purple means Elite (90–99), blue Excellent (80–89), teal Strong (70–79), gold Useful (60–69) and slate Depth (1–59). The same scale applies to Ability and Potential. Every badge shows a number as well as a colour.
Why do some players appear in multiple position tables?
The original shortlist includes players in more than one position group. Those groups are preserved here, while the position badge shows the player's positions in the FM26 Database.
Which nationality does the flag show?
The flag shows the nationality displayed in the FM26 Database. Search also recognises the original shortlist nationality when it differs. A nationality does not by itself establish home-grown status or work-permit eligibility.
Why do club names sometimes look odd in FM26?
The tables use the same club names and profile links as the FM26 Database. Search also recognises familiar aliases, such as Man Utd, PSG and Benfica, alongside names from the original shortlist.
How should I scout wonderkids efficiently?
Use Recruitment Focus by role and attribute, set realistic price bands, send best scouts to key regions, and cross check reports with this shortlist. Prioritise Determination, Work Rate, Professionalism and Consistency.
Which hidden attributes matter most for elite development?
Professionalism drives growth. Consistency and Important Matches decide output in big games. Injury Proneness governs availability. Adaptability speeds settling after transfers.
What training actually moves the needle?
Individual role training + focus on the weakest key attribute. High quality coaches. Weekly match minutes. Balanced intensity to avoid red injury risk. Add Traits that fit the role and the player.
How much game time is enough for growth?
Aim for 25 to 35 full match equivalents across all competitions for 17 to 19 year olds. If you cannot guarantee minutes, loan with a key player or regular starter clause.
Loan or keep in house?
Loan if your first team pathway is blocked. Keep if you can guarantee competitive minutes and top training. Always pick an affiliate that plays your player in his best role.
Which roles are most sensitive to physicals and height?
Centre backs and target forwards benefit most from height, jumping and strength. Wingers and full backs gain more from acceleration and agility. Use role templates, not generic attribute shopping.
How do release clauses and compensation work for youths?
Many countries enforce youth compensation and minimum fee clauses. Always check Contract > Clauses. Exploit relegation or non promotion clauses. Trigger release clauses early to beat rivals.
Star ratings look low on my shortlist. Is the player bad?
Star ratings are relative to your squad quality and league reputation. A 3 star at Manchester City might be a 5 star signing at a mid table side.
Can I retrain positions without ruining development?
Yes if you keep minutes steady. Retrain once the player reaches a solid base in his main role or when a clear pathway exists in the new role. Do not yo yo every month.
What about work permits and Brexit style rules?
Check the registration rules and scouting reports in your own save. Eligibility depends on the competition and player circumstances; a nationality alone does not guarantee a work permit or home-grown status.
How do I avoid paying silly wages to teenagers?
Front load with appearance and team of the year bonuses, keep basic wage sensible, add optional extensions and sell on percentage. Agents respond to promotion pathways and squad status.
When do youth intakes drop?
Varies by country, typically February to April in Europe and September to December in parts of South America. Keep an annual calendar and assign scouts to intake days.
How do I use this page quickly during a save?
Search by player, club or nation, choose a price band and jump to a position. Select a table heading to sort, or use the sort menu on mobile. Open the player name for the full profile, open the club for its squad, or press Copy to paste the player name into Football Manager.
Price bands in this shortlist?
Under £2m; £2m to under £5m; £5m to under £10m; and £10m or more. The filter uses the Database value, not a guaranteed asking price. Players without a listed sale value appear under Any value.
Do wonderkids fail?
Yes. Without minutes, a good personality, low injury load and the right mentoring, PA stays theoretical. Use the data, be ruthless, move on early if development stalls.
