When looking for bargains, one of the best bets on FM is to look for players with favourable release clauses. This will either be players whose true value is well above that of their release clause, or can wildly overperform that value with ease. While different clubs have different ideas of what constitutes a bargain - some clubs won’t have multiple millions to spend on a single player ever, no matter how good value for money - a player whose ability and potential outstrips their price tag is worth the investment for any club. This article will advise you on the best players available with release clauses in Football Manager 2024, no matter what your price-range.

Under £1m Release Clause

For clubs with less money in the bank, great value is absolutely critical to their success. They don’t have the same resources to spend as richer clubs, and precious pennies wasted on subpar players will affect these clubs far more than their bigger and richer counterparts. If you’re looking for players for under £1m in FM24, these two are your best bet.

Yerson Chacon

Chacon is a right-footed winger. Equally comfortable operating on either flank, Chacon is skilful and has a natural eye for chance creation, and has a decent enough long shot to be a cause for concern for opposition defences. He’s got the potential to be a starting winger for a Champions League side, but at 20 years old, he starts the game not quite ready for top-flight football. I recommend activating his £800k release clause and loaning him back to his club in Venezuela for the remainder of the season - or if you have a lower-league affiliate, that’s also a good option for his development.

Artem Sokolov

Sokolov is one of my favourite diamonds in the rough this season. Available for only £287k, Sokolov is a gifted playmaker, with nimble movement and footballing intelligence far beyond his years. Also 20 years old, he’s an absolute steal at this price and ready to contribute for a Championship side, or maybe a smaller side in a top-flight outside of Europe’s top 5 leagues. He’s at a stage in his career where he needs gametime - and lots of it - so if you can’t slot him into your first team, you’ll need to look at getting him out on loan pretty quickly. However, if you can get his development on the right track, you’ll have a gifted passer who can orchestrate your attack for the next 10 years.

£5m - £10m Release Clause

At this mid-tier pricing, we’re generally looking at players who are a little further on in their development. When your club can afford to sign players in this bracket, you’ll expect them to deliver to a certain calibre and make a tangible difference to your season. These players would suit growing clubs who still lack that financial muscle to bring in the truly elite talent, but with some savvy business, you’ll be able to compete with the big dogs in your league.

Valentin Barco

We’ve all heard of this rising star. The Argentine left-back has garnered significant attention for his performances with Boca Juniors, and he’s ready to make the step to Europe. Any top flight side in Europe should have him on their radar, and while most Champions League sides might view him as a back-up, he’s more than ready for Europa League calibre opposition and walks into most starting XIs in Europe. In my opinion, he’s already worth more than triple his modest release clause of £8m, so he’s a very affordable option for most top flight sides in the top leagues.

Filip Bundgaard

Randers fans won’t thank me for bringing attention to their hottest prospect, but he’s an undeniable bargain on FM24. Despite his tender years - he’s only 19 at the beginning of a save - he’s capable of playing at an elite level all across the front line. Again, because of his youth, he’s likely a lower-Premier League or upper-Championship level player at the moment, but it won’t be long before he’s far outperforming his £5.78m release clause.

£15m+ Release Clause

These players will almost exclusively be watched by some of the top teams in Europe. While these price tags might seem a little steep, the players are more than worth the outlay. If you have the resources to bring these players into your club, they just might be too good to turn down the opportunity.

Rodri

No, not that one. Currently plying his trade at Real Betis, Rodri is a 23-year-old CM/AM, with elite passing, vision and technical ability. He reminds me very much of a young Juan Mata, and has a similar level of potential to be fulfilled. For Only £20.5m, you can pick up this potentially world-class talent, who’ll be the heartbeat of your attack for the prime of his career. Well worth the investment.

Nico Williams

Imagine a player, 20 years old with pace to burn. A winger, already capped by Spain and almost 100 appearances in La Liga. His mental attributes are exceptional and his crossing, passing and other creative attributes point to a player with the potential to be the best in the world at his position. How much would you expect to pay for him? £80m? £100m? Nico Williams ticks all these boxes and he’s available for £43m. Obviously that price tag will put off all but the elite clubs, but that’s where he deserves to be. He’s equally effective on either wing and could even play up front if need be. £43m might not sound like a bargain, but he’s easily worth double that, and you won’t regret that high initial outlay.

Ferdi Kadioglu

Fenerbahce’s best player by a distance, Ferdi Kadioglu, is ready to step into an important role for one of Europe’s biggest clubs. A full-back by trade, but equally adept at playing in midfield, Kadioglu has all the necessary attributes to be a deeper focal point of your side. I’ve found him particularly effective as an inverted wing-back, allowing him to be a threat both out wide and through the centre of the park. Give him that kind of freedom, and he’ll dictate play from wherever you place him, a bargain for £17.5m.
