Overcoming Paris Saint-Germain
The Ligue 1 is not the only challenge that you will have, winning
a European trophy is definitely not easier. The last time that a French team
has managed to win the Champions League was Olympique de Marseille in 92/93
season. Can you finally win the most prestigious club competition in the world with a French team in Football Manager 2021?
League Rules can make or break a save, some people love the challenge of
strict league rules, and some people prefer to have loose league rules as they
don't have to worry about them. Ligue 1 rules are not hard to follow, Ligue 1
allows only 4 Non-EU players to be registered for the league. For players that
hate being strict to less non-EU players or hard work permits rules, Ligue 1
offers a great balance for your saves.

Exciting clubs to manage in Ligue 1
Here is our pick of three exciting teams and challenges to overcome from French top football tier, Ligue 1, in Football Manager 2021.
Paris Saint Germain
We begin the list with the strongest team in France, PSG. PSG, backed by Qatari investments, have risen to be a major superpower in European Football. Having won 6 league titles in the last 7 years, PSG are the most dominant team in France. The fans are so used to their team winning the league that anything less than 1st place in the league is deemed as a failure.
PSG however, have never won the Champions League which the fans and the board
covet the most. They did come very close in 2019-2020 but lost to Bayern in
the finals. For any FM Manager aspiring to take over the reins, they would be
required to win Ligue 1 and likely the Champion’s league.
However, PSG have a plethora of stars at their disposal and is a powerful side
to manage. With sugar daddy owners backing the manager in his every step,
building an empire with PSG should be the goal for seasoned FM managers. This
is certainly an interesting challenge where you will strive to achieve global
dominance with the club.
Our 2nd pick on the list is a relatively less popular team from Ligue 1, Rennes. The club secured their best ever league finish (3rd Place) in the 2019-2020 season and have secured UCL qualification for the first time in their history. The club also secured their 3rd French Cup title beating PSG in the final with the odds heavily stacked against them.
Rennes

The club also secured their 3rd French Cup title beating PSG in the final with the odds heavily stacked against them.
What potential managers taking over Rennes in Football Manager 2021 have going
for them is the strong youth academy that the club prides itself on. Having
produced top footballers like Ousmane Dembele, Abdoulaye Doucore the academy
constantly churn out stars that can take the club to the next level provided
the club can hold on to them.
The club also have in their ranks one of the highest-rated wonderkids in the
game, Eduardo Camavinga. Despite currently being as a feeder club, under the
right manager, Rennes have the potential to take the next step and challenge
for titles. This is certainly an interesting challenge that a few FM Managers
will look forward to.
The last pick on the list is Monaco. Although technically based outside of France in Monaco, they ply their trade in Ligue 1 and have been one of the most successful teams in the league. They are the only team to have broken the PSG dominance by winning the league in 2016-2017 on the back of some excellent performances from many of the players. They also have one coveted Champions League title which has eluded even financial giant PSG.
Monaco

However, things have been down for the club for the past few seasons, and they
have been closer to relegation than mounting a title challenge. There have
been several managerial changes and zero stability in the squad which may be
one of the causes for this. For any FM Managers taking over, this will be the
biggest challenge as they will first need to bring stability to the squad and
replace some of the key players that have left the club.
What they have going for them, however, is that Monaco have one of the best youth academies and scouting in the world. They also have a sugar daddy owner
who will back the manager provided they fulfil the board requirements. This
will definitely be an exciting challenge to managers, and they need to be at
their best to bring Monaco from mediocrity to the very top.
Conclusion
For conclusion, starting a save in France is certainly something to consider as Football Manager 2021 is right around the corner. Even if you are interested in Ligue 1,2 or even the lower divisions, French football is evolving every year and starts to compete with other European giants.
