Here is our pick of 3 exciting Football Manager 2021 teams to manage in the
Italian Serie A.
With the FM 2021 release date right around the corner, fans are eager to manage their favourite sides. However, managing some teams pose more of an interesting challenge to many managers. Here is our pick of 3 exciting teams to manage in the Italian Serie A.
1. AC Milan
2019-2020 League Position: 6
AC Milan are one of the most decorated clubs in Italy only behind Juventus for a number of trophies won. They are also the most successful Italian team in Europe and one of the most popular clubs in the world in terms of the fan base. However, things haven’t been all rosy for the club as they have not won a league title since 2011. They were banned from European competitions last season for breaching the FFP and the club was on a downward spiral. The appointment of Stefano Pioli has completely turned the tide for the club and they went on a 10 game unbeaten run, eventually finishing 6th and earning a Europa League Spot. They have gotten off to an impeccable start in the current season and are sitting pretty at the top of the table. It will definitely be a worthy FM21 challenge for most managers to first fill in the shoes of Pioli who has done magnificently at Milan so far and to see if they can break their title drought and bring glory to the club once again. The club has done relatively OK in the transfer market despite losing a couple of key players, especially signing the coveted Sandro Tonali. There is also the prospect of managing the indomitable Zlatan which adds extra spice to anyone taking over!
2. Atalanta
2019-2020 League Position: 3
Atalanta have been one of the most promising teams out of Italy in the past couple of seasons, especially the 2019-2020 season where they dominated most teams they faced. They had scored the most goals in Serie A, 17 more goals than the 2nd best team (Inter) and secured a respectable 3rd place in the League and made the quarterfinals of the UCL. Atalanta have earned the reputation of a free-flowing attacking team under Gasperini’s guidance. Despite being more of a selling club, Atalanta are well drilled with a strong core of technically sound players. For any FM2021 Manager taking over, Gasperini’s shoes are definitely a big one to fill, especially in holding onto your best players. However, the challenge lies in maintaining the free flowing attacking spirit of the club and making them a genuine contender both in the league and in Europe. Atalanta will definitely be one of the favourite neutral clubs to manage for many FM Managers.
3. Inter Milan
2019-2020 League Position: 2
Inter are another fallen giant in the Serie A having won no league titles since 2010. Just like their derby rivals, Inter are one of the most decorated teams in Serie A with plenty of domestic and continental titles but have fallen off over the last few years, especially the last decade. Inter, however, have reinvested pretty heavily over the last 2 years and have spent over £ 175m on player transfers. Antonio Conte did push Juventus close for the title but fell slightly short. For any FM Manager taking over from Conte, the task is cut out to dethrone Juventus and make Inter the dominant force in Serie A and in Europe. With a board ready to back the manager and a very healthy squad at your disposal this dream may not be too far-fetched. The prospect of managing some of the best young talents in football adds an extra allure making Inter a very exciting team to manage in FM 2021.
