The problem is many clubs don’t have millions and millions to work with - it is your job to stabilise the club and improve income by displays on the pitch.
Setting up your tactics
Before you are starting your first match in charge of the club, you need to pick your team’s tactics. You can choose from a number of tactics already implemented by FM, or you can make a custom tactic from scratch.
There would usually be a thumbs up to show which tactics and formation are most suitable for that squad. Then you decide to pick your starting XI; it is wise to choose players based on their in-game stats out of 20, rather than the overall rating given by your assistant manager.
Another tip is that you don’t have to play a certain player in the role they are most comfortable with. You can see, once you click on a player, which roles require which stats to be useful.
When you are playing a team considered to be worse than you, the mentality should either be positive or attacking. Likewise, if you are playing a team better than you, the mentality should be cautious or defensive. If the tactics aren’t working to get the team results, it is often useful to change things up.
You are also able to change the captaincy, but it may reduce morale with the current captain. The judgement on who is chosen should be based on a mix of their leadership and teamwork.
