The loss of football is agonising fans across the UK. Whether it is going to play for your Sunday league team, or watching the team you support, Coronavirus has put the sport we live and die by into a coma.
We miss football and would do nearly anything to bring it back. There is one game that provokes passion, desire, the feeling of ecstasy after scoring a last-minute winner. Through your computer screen, the best parts of football are resurrected during a period where the beautiful game isn’t being played.
Football Manager 2020, or FM for short, is one of the most traditional, detailed football games there is. Whether or not you have played Football Manager before, we are celebrating the nearest thing to the continuation of football.
FM20 gives an interesting perspective on watching football. Obviously, you are the manager of your chosen club.
With 118 leagues, you are spoilt with the choice of which team to lead to glory. You can adopt a certain playing style, a unique formation - you can even have a Jose Mourinho type stance during press conferences. Boredom is basically a lack of choice; on FM2020, you will never be bored.
Starting a save on Football Manager 2020
Before you officially start a career, you can design your appearance as a manager. With the great option of loading in a photo of yourself, the manager in the game will look similar to you in real life. Some FM20 players like to be a tracksuit manager, whilst others like the formal suit and tie - the creators of this game are not foreign to detail.
As your role begins, you are setting out a list of targets for your season, and for your role at the club in the long-term. If you think they are unfair and unreasonable, you can negotiate your ambitions with the board of the club. If you fail to be meeting all the required plans, it is likely that you will be sacked.
If you feel as if the detail is a bit much to handle, you can organise your staff responsibilities so backroom staff can manage training, friendly matches, press conferences and much more. This can be very useful, as you can crack on with all of the fun roles in a club. One of these roles would be signing some players that would help out your squad. The problem is many clubs don’t have millions and millions to work with - it is your job to stabilise the club and improve income by displays on the pitch.
Setting up your tactics
Before you are starting your first match in charge of the club, you need to pick your team’s tactics. You can choose from a number of tactics already implemented by FM, or you can make a custom tactic from scratch.
There would usually be a thumbs up to show which tactics and formation are most suitable for that squad. Then you decide to pick your starting XI; it is wise to choose players based on their in-game stats out of 20, rather than the overall rating given by your assistant manager.
Another tip is that you don’t have to play a certain player in the role they are most comfortable with. You can see, once you click on a player, which roles require which stats to be useful.
When you are playing a team considered to be worse than you, the mentality should either be positive or attacking. Likewise, if you are playing a team better than you, the mentality should be cautious or defensive. If the tactics aren’t working to get the team results, it is often useful to change things up.
You are also able to change the captaincy, but it may reduce morale with the current captain. The judgement on who is chosen should be based on a mix of their leadership and teamwork.
The best feeling in Football manager is watching your team lifting a trophy. To get there, it takes hard work and lots of time, depending on the club, but it is well worth it. The detail goes on and on: Sports Interactive employs scouts to watch teams around the world and gain judgements of stats. The effort Football Manager has made to create one of the best games out there, is truly incredible. They have allowed any ordinary person to feel part of something virtual, but special.
I completely recommend to buy Football Manager 2020, to bring back football and fall in love with a club, no matter the league. The price varies, but you can get it here from FM Blog with a discounted price of up to 40% off, grab an FM20 discount. Football Manager 2020 will help you get through this awful time of boredom.
