Newcastle United
Tonali. Botman. Isak. Livramento. Newcastle’s squad reads like a who’s who of FM wonderkids, and Eddie Howe’s side would be the envy of anyone who’s ever picked up the game. Dripping with potential, a huge and passionate fanbase, and the small matter of unfathomable wealth to play with, Newcastle have been a fun save for a couple of years now, and FM24 looks like it’ll be no different. Your task, if you choose to accept it, is to bring glory to the north east and turn the club’s ambitious vision into a reality. Build your team around the unbelievable playmaking of Sandro Tonali, and you won’t go far wrong.
Luton Town
At the opposite end of the Premier League is the latest addition to the top flight. Luton Town come into the league on the back of 5 promotions in 9 years, and are firm favourites to return to the championship. Despite adding experienced talent like Ross Barkley and some promising signings such as Mads Andersen and Tahith Chong, the odds are firmly against the hatters, and you’ll have to be at your very best to save them from relegation. It’s a tricky save, but by staving off relegation and building for the future, who knows what you can build?
Malaga
This has been an FM favourite for a number of years. On a downward slide for the better part of a decade, Malaga have now fallen to the third tier of Spanish football. This couldn’t be more enticing: a club with potential playing at a level far below their true capabilities. Getting out of the Primera Federacion should be light work for any FM player, but it’s after then that your true challenge begins. Malaga struggled to challenge the top teams in Liga Segunda in real life, so its up to your talents in the dugout to get the best out of a club that should really be in a better position than they’re currently in.
AZ
AZ have been one of my favourite clubs to manage for a few years now. Despite being dominated by the big three, the Eredivisie is a surprisingly open league, and a good run for your AZ side could easily see you overperforming expectations. With a strike force of Pavlidis and Karlsson and plenty of talent all over the pitch, there’s no reason you can’t give the big boys something to worry about in your first season. Couple that with youth talents like Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro, Ernest Poku, and Yusuf Barasi, you’ve got a club that’s in a great position to grow into a new era of dominance in the Netherlands.
Saint Etienne
When we talk about fallen giant saves, there’s few that compare to Saint Etienne. With 10 titles, 6 coupes de France, and an appearance in the European Cup final, Saint Etienne were undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in France between the mid-1950s and the 1980s. In the present day, les verts have had far less success and have failed to win a trophy since 1981. Even worse, the club gained international attention when their fans angrily stormed the pitch following their relegation in 2022. As a club in one of their lowest moments in their history, there are few FM saves that will be more satisfying than bringing this once-great club back to the summit of French football and conquering PSG.
Inter Miami
The landscape of European football has changed in the last 12 months. Many legends of the game have begun to reach the twilight of their careers, and have begun to look to pastures new for the challenge they need at this stage in their lives. While for many that has meant a move to Saudi Arabia, some have sought a new challenge on the other side of the Atlantic. With the addition of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, Inter Miami have immediately become one of the most talked about clubs on the planet. Despite struggling in the lower end of the Eastern Conference of MLS, adding talent like Messi and Busquets almost overnight raises the ceiling of what this team can achieve. Your task on FM24 is to make sure that the legacy of these star names is a lasting success at the club that outlives what little time is left on their careers.
