If you're looking for a new challenge to try out in FM22, take it upon yourself and bring European glory for the first time in one of those countries, or why not all of them?
In this FM22 challenges article, we will be exploring 4 European countries that have never tasted continental success.
1. Greece
The Greeks actually came close to the most important continental trophy, but
Panathinaikos was defeated by Ajax in the 1970–71 European Cup final.
Returning to the present day, in FM22, the Greek SuperLeague has seen a
decline in league reputation compared to previous editions of the game.
However, the top clubs like AEK, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, and PAOK still
have decent transfer budgets and can attract good enough players to mount an ambitious
European campaign. Of course, under your guidance, after a few seasons in
charge, both club and league reputation will undoubtedly rise, so give it
time, and a continental trophy will finally come to Greece.
The Greek SuperLeague currently has only 4 European spots: 1 in the Champions
League and 3 in the newly established Conference League. The fastest route to
a continental trophy would be, of course, in the Conference League.
2. Czech Republic
Similar to the Greek SuperLeague, the Czech First League also has 4
continental spots: 1 in the Champions League and 3 in the Conference League.
The likes of Slavia Praha and Viktoria Plzen have dominated the league in
recent years and are in a good position to conquer Europe.
With £7m to spend on transfers, Slavia seems to be your best bet. City rivals
Sparta, boasting a £7m transfer budget, is also a good place to plan your
Bohemian adventure.
3. Croatia
Dinamo Zagreb actually won a European trophy, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, in
1967, but UEFA does not consider clubs' records in the Fairs Cup to be part of
their European record, so you'll have to do it again.
Probably, your only option here is the same Dinamo Zagreb, the club that
dominated the Croatian league for the past 16 years and reached the UEFA
Europa League quarterfinal in 2020–21. The club is known to produce excellent
players, so with a good mix of home-grown and foreign players, try to surpass
the 2020–21 achievement and win Dinamo's first UEFA trophy.
4. Denmark
The champions of the previous 3 editions of the Danish SuperLiga are your best
bets: Brøndby IF, FC København, and FC Midtjylland. København even reached the
UEFA Europa League quarterfinal in 2019–20, and all 3 clubs have decent
transfer budgets and reputations to attract good players. Once again, the
Conference League is your most attractive competition, FC København actually
reaching the round of 16 in real life this season.
