Founded in 1882 Oxford City FC reside in the Marston area of Oxford and currently compete in the Vanarama National League South in FM21.
Another thought team to manage in FM21 Vanrama's National League South,
Oxford Cty FC.
The Playing Squad
As I said earlier in the article, this team isn’t the strongest within the league and will provide somewhat of a challenge to any player wanting to take it on. Despite this, however, there are always highlights within the squad that could help build the base for success.
Josh Ashby
One of these highlights is midfielder Josh Ashby. The former Oxford United
playmaker knows non-league well, having been loaned out to AFC Telford, Brackley
Town and Oxford City, before making his move to the Hoops permanent in 2018.
Whilst he doesn’t have a lot of higher league experience to his name, there is
plenty of time for the midfielder to develop at the age of 24 meaning he can be
one of the players it would be wise to build around in the early days.
Elliot Benyon
Another highlight within the squad is striker Elliot Benyon. A real ‘journeyman’ of the game, the 33-year-old has really done the rounds within the English league system, starting off at Bristol City in 2006, he has had stints at bigger names within the lower leagues such as Southend United, Torquay United and Wycombe Wanderers scoring a handful of goals wherever he goes.
This
experience within the lower reaches of the game is one of the most important
assets available and the mental attributes that peak at this time are vital to
creating a well-balanced team.
Starved of Honours
Boasting a rich history of over 130 years, the club doesn’t have a variety of honours to their name with one ‘Tournoi de Paques du Stade Francais’ and a lot of Oxfordshire Senior Cups (most recently in 2019) but are starved of honours which include league titles, something every club strives for and what every successful club has.
This should be very good motivation for any player wanting a decent challenge and a ‘road to glory’ style save which will drag the club out of the non-league depths and to the promised land of the football league and then eventually the holy grail that is the Premier League.
