The Polish Ekstraklasa is an interesting league that many FM players may not have used before. Legia Warsaw have dominated the league in recent years having won the league six times in the last eight seasons.
So without further ado, here is a list of Polish teams to manage to try to wrestle away Legia’s throne.
Lech Poznan
Lech are a title-challenging team as they finished as runners up in the Ekstraklasa last season. They most recently won the league back in 2015. The squad, therefore, is strong. Pressing forward Mikael Ishak is an excellent option to lead the line and Portuguese midfielder Pedro Tiba provides creativity.
The former home of Polish legend Robert Lewandowski, Lech have great training and youth facilities which can be used in the battle against Legia Warsaw. Filip Marchwinski is Lech’s most recent youth product.
A few years back, a famous trend began in which fans turn their back to the pitch and jump in unison. This celebration is known as the Poznan (Grecque). Although now used by Man City’s and other club’s fans, it was originally done by Lech Poznan supporters. If you win the league, you might be doing your own Poznan celebration at your house.
Wisla Krakow
Wisla are historically one of the biggest
clubs in Poland having won the league 14 times; the most recent of which was
in 2011. However, recent times have been tougher and the club have been
through financial hardships and thus the club’s league positions have
suffered.

In February 2019, former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski re-joined Wisla. He decided play for his boyhood club without taking a wage. On Football Manager 2021, he is earning just 100 pounds per week despite being the club’s best player by far. Not only that but Jakub Blaszczykowski donated 300,000 euros of his own money to help keep them afloat. An absolute club legend.
Getting Wisla Krakow back to their former glories will be based on getting the club’s finances right and using the good training facilities and filling the big stadium.

Cracovia
Cracovia were one of Poland’s biggest clubs back in the 1930s but success has been extremely difficult to come by in recent years. That is until the club extremely surprisingly won the Polish FA Cup last season. This means that the relegation candidates have a place in the Europa League. Fighting a
relegation battle while in Europe is difficult at the best of times but the
club begin the season with a 5-point deduction for match-fixing.

Cracovia’s best player is versatile winger Segiu Hanca, Dutch attacking midfielder Pelle Van Amersfoort is a creative force for the club, and David Jablonsky is a leader at the back. You’ll have to add to this squad to compete on multiple fronts.
Stal Mielec
Stal Mielec are out and out favourites for relegation this season. But, in recent years the club have been very successful having gained three promotions in the last 7 seasons and are now back into Ekstraklasa for first time since 1996.

Unsurprisingly though, Stal Mielec’s squad is weak but Finnish attacking midfielder Petteri Forsell is a creative force in midfield. Mateusz Mak is a strong option on the wing as well. However, the defence needs to be strengthened. To do so, you will probably need to make use of loans and free transfers as the club’s budgets are extremely small. Are you good enough to keep Stal Mielec in the league?
