In this article we have collected a number of defenders, some of them will
be already elite, some of them will be wonderkids and bargains to keep an
eye in Football Manager 2021.
In the last decade, defenders have improved tremendously compared to what they have used to be. Defenders nowadays are not only tall players that need to be able to clear balls, in this era of football, managers all over the world are implementing possession football which starts from the back, from the goalkeeper and the defenders.
The defenders have to be much more technical than what they used to be, they need to be able to have great passing and first touch to be able to start play from the back.
In Football Manager 2021, playing from the back is a great option if you want to play possession-based football, but playing from the back demands technical centre back and full-backs, as they are the last line of defence and every mistake can lead to a high scoring opportunity.

The first player on this list is Pierre Kalulu. Kalulu is a 20-year-old right-back who plays for AC Milan and he will be available for less than 2.5 Million Pounds, so if you have a limited transfer budget, Kalulu can be a good option. His physical attributes are the ones that stand out the most, although he is lacking the ability to join the attack, his great defensive attributes compensate for that.
The next player on the list is Denis Vavro who plays for Lazio in the Serie A. Despite being only 24 years old, his defensive attributes are superb and he can already be a starting centre back in a mid-table Premier League team. The 6′2 Slovakian international stands out in his aerial presence with his height so if you are lacking the heading ability in your defence, Vavro could be your guy.
Mumin is a centre back who plays for Vit. Guimarães in LIGA NOS. He is very good technically and plays as a Ball Playing Defender that can bring the ball up the field. Mumin will be available to buy for around 3 Million Pounds.
Onguéné is one of the elite level centre backs on this list and with interest from top European clubs, his price will not be cheap. He is a physical centre back with great pace and mental attributes. Onguéné will be available for around 25 Million Pounds.
The last player on this list is Lodi, the superb left-back from Atletico Madrid. He will be available for around 30 Million Pounds but he does have a minimum fee release clause of 48 Million Pounds. He is exceptional when going forward so if you are playing with attacking full-backs, Lodi can do a great job.
