About the club
Internazionale or Inter Milan are a professional football club that ply their trade in the Serie A . They have the record of being the only Italian club to never have been relegated from the top flight.
Inter has won 30 domestic trophies, including 18 league titles, 7 Coppa Italia and 5 Supercoppa Italiana. From 2006 to 2010, the club won five successive league titles, equalling the all-time record at that time. They have won the Champions League three times: two back-to-back in 1964 and 1965 and then another in 2010. Their latest win completed an unprecedented Italian seasonal treble, with Inter winning the Coppa Italia and the Scudetto the same year. The club has also won three UEFA Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.
Inter's home games are played at the San Siro stadium, which they share with local rivals A.C. Milan. The stadium is the largest in Italian football with a capacity of 80,018. Matches between A.C. Milan and Inter, known as the Derby della Madonnina, are one of the most followed derbies in football. As of 2019, Inter is the most supported team in Italy and the sixth most-supported in Europe. The club is one of the most valuable in Italian and world football.
Inter are without a league title since 2010 and finished 4th in the 2018-2019 season. They successfully made it into the group stages of the UEFA Champion’s league.
The Board's Expectation
The board demands should you take over will be;
- Make the top 4 of the Serie A (Automatic qualification for the UEFA Champion’s League)
- Make the SF of the Italian Cup/Coppa Italia.
- Make the knockout stages of the UEFA Champion’s league.
There will not be any specific philosophies on which you’ll be judged on and the board will let you focus fully on the objectives however you see fit. Inter have invested heavily in the transfermarket having invested over £135m on new players. So, your coffers should nearly be empty leaving very little room for changes.
Inter have very good training facilities and a very good youth system that will churn out the occasional potential star player. You can rely on this to make the club achieve their targets and circumvent the FFP.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
A fluid counter attacking system is what suits the Inter’s set of players the best. This will help them take advantage of their wing backs and have them released for quick counters. Their strikers also thrive on crosses from the wing backs.
A 3-5-2 is how inter line up in real life is probably the best suited formation for this squad of players. It also innately plays to the players strengths of crossing and releasing the strikers early. Alternatively, you can use the 4-3-3 formation too.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 3-5-2 formation is as follows;
- Samir Handanovic as a sweeper keeper.
- Stefan De Vrij, Diego Godin & Milan Skriniar as the 3 centre backs, 2 of them can be played as Ball Playing Defenders.
- Antonio Candreva & Kwadwo Asamoah as the 2 wing backs.
- Barella, Brozovic & Stefano Sensi as the 3 central midfielders, with Brozovicplaying as the holding midfielder.
- Lautaro Martinez & Romelu Lukaku up front as the 2 strikers.
Alternatively, when you switch to a 4-3-3 you can go with Matteo Politano as the Right winger & Alexis Sanchez as the left winger in an inside forward role.
Key Players
1. Milan Skriniar
Milan Skriniar is a world class defender, he is highly established in the Serie A. The Slovakian international, although just 24 has already made 85 starts for Inter and is crucial for marshalling their defence.
2. Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku is the Inter Milan’s record signing and the young Belgian striker has a point to prove after his supposed failure at Manchester United.
3. Marcelo Brozovic
Marcelo Brozovic is at the heart of the Inter midfield and is a very versatile midfielder. He is defensively astute and can contribute goals from midfield.
4. Samir Handanovic
Samir Handanovic is the Inter captain and a trusted aide at goal. His performances will be crucial in you achieving your targets.
Weaknesses
- The quality of backups in the squad may not be up to quality and could prove fatal if your squad is affected by injuries.
- You run the risk of some talents being poached by other clubs especially in search of higher wages.
- The wing backs are ageing and may be affected by fatigue if you play them continuously. Able backups are not readily available in the squad.
Youngsters to keep an eye on
There are a few exciting young prospects in the ranks who have the potential to be some of the best players in the league. A few examples are;
- Lautaro Martinez (ST)
- Nicolo Barella (CM)
- Sebastiano Esposito (ST)
