This season, three clubs from the region are in the group stages of the two biggest UEFA competitions. Only two years ago, six clubs managed to reach the group stages.Partizan, Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star Belgrade are well known clubs in Football Manager. But for players who want even bigger challenges, there are a lot of interesting clubs available going into Football Manager 2020.
TSC Backa Topola
FK TSC Backa Topola is one of the oldest football clubs in Serbia. The club is based in a small city called Backa Topola, close to the Hungarian border in the north. TSC has been a part of four different countries, Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia, Serbia & Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia as it is today.
The club gained its promotion to the Serbian Superliga as late as this season for the first time in the club’s history. The club is owned by Hungarians and so it has been for most of the time. TCS has got one of the best and most modern facilities in Serbia and in the whole region. That’s why it would be a really fun FM20 challenge to try and beat Red Star and Partizan or maybe to develop a superstar through the academy. The Ajax striker Dusan Tadic is a product of TSC Backa Topola.
To play with TSC Backa Topola, you would just have to load the Serbian first league.
FK Vardar Skopje
FK Vardar is the most successful club in Macedonia with 10 national championships, 5 national cups and 1 Yugoslav league title. In 2017, the club decided to bring in many legends at the director positions, and one of them were the Golden Boot winner from 1991, Darko Pancev. The club managed to reach the Europa League group stage for the first time that season, being the only club in the country to do so.
With legends in the board, new history written and more money into the club, the fans were excited to see the club grow and possibly make it to the Champions League group stage the season after. But instead of that, the club went on to have one of its worst crisis in its history. In a transfer twist for the striker Maksim Maksimov, the club was banned from competing in UEFA competitions for the next season and Vardar also got a transfer ban for two windows.
And that’s where the club stands going into Football Manager 2020. The first season will have to be played with many youngsters and Macedonian players as the club has got a ban and some of the best players left the club. Vardar has not won the league since 2016/17 and that would be the first step as well as stabilizing the club again.

OFK Beograd
OFK Beograd is also one of the oldest clubs in Serbia. The club belongs to the country’s capital Belgrade. The club is well respected in the region, but went straight from the first to the third division in two seasons and there they stand today. They haven’t played in the top tier since the 2015-16 season and the first step is to get the club back to the first league.
The club is well known for its good academy, and players like Alexander Kolarov and Branislav Ivanovic are products of OFK Beograd. Maybe using the academy would be a good way to get the club back to where it once were.

Akademija Pandev
Goran Pandev is one of Macedonia’s biggest football players ever. He was a part of the Inter team that won the treble with Mourinho and he’s took part in more than 400 Serie A games. In 2010 he started his own academy in his home city Strumica, and the club is named after him (Academy of Pandev).
In 2014 the club started competing in the senior leagues and Akademija Pandev gained promotion to the Macedonian first league in 2017. Since then their best placement is third but last season they managed to win the cup which also meant they got to play in the Europa League qualifiers.
The first step in taking over Akademija Pandev would be to make it the biggest club in the country by winning the league and go far in Europe.
