Nowadays, some of the most popular vacation destinations are island-based, a sign that our fascination with these places has endured the test of time. With that in mind, here's a list of 4 island-based clubs to manage in FM22.
Based in the city of Palma on the island of Majorca in the Balearic Islands, the club was founded in 1916 and plays its home games at the Visit Mallorca Stadium with a 23,142-seat capacity. They are a newly promoted team in LaLiga, having several previous stints in the top Spanish division, their best performance being 3rd placed on two occasions (1998-99 and 2000-01). The club's biggest achievement was winning the Spanish Cup in 2002-03. Building them into a title challenger will prove to be quite a difficult challenge, but Mallorca does have quite a few talented players in its ranks and has the potential to become a top club under your guidance.

The Sardinian club, whose badge actually incorporates the island's flag, was founded in 1920 and plays its home games at the provisional 16,416-seater Unipol Domus, which is adjacent to their future new stadium site. With 42 seasons in the Serie A, Cagliari is an established first division club, having won the "Scudetto" once, in 1969–70. Cagliari has finished 16th (out of 20) last season and is not faring much better in real life this season, but with you as a manager, the Sardinian club has the potential to grow and become a force in Serie A once more.

The mythical island of Crete has only one team in the Greek SuperLeague – OFI Crete. The club, founded in 1925, is based in Heraklion, the largest city and capital of the island, and hosts its home games at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium (9000 capacity). OFI's best years were in the second half of the 1980s, finishing as runners-up in the league (1985–86) and winning the Greek Cup (1986–87). In recent years, OFI became a yoyo club, even falling as low as the Greek third league when the club withdrew from professional competitions. Back in the SuperLeague, OFI managed to avoid relegation in the previous 3 seasons, a good basis to build upon and challenge PAOK and the Athens clubs for the title. Jon Toral and Luc Castaignos are currently OFI's key players, so look to use them to their full potential.

The most remote island on this list, Madeira, is the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo. Although the Portuguese star was a youth player for the other club on the island, Nacional de Madeira, this entry will focus on C.S. Marítimo, a club founded in 1910 that plays its home games at the 10,932-seater Estádio do Marítimo. With 41 seasons in the top Portuguese league, Maritimo occupies 10th place in an all-time Primeira Liga table. The only major trophy of Maritimo is the Portuguese Cup, won in 1925–26. With such a long dry spell, success at Maritimo will be so much sweeter. Taking down Porto, Sporting, Benfica, or even Braga won't be easy, but that's why it's called an FM challenge.
