There was a tiny percentage of football fans and pundits who gave AS Roma any chance of going through to the semi-finals of the Champions League knock-out phase. Especially after the first leg and the result Spanish giant brought from Catalunia.
Where to begin?
To get the taste of yesterdays euphoria on a Spring night in Rome, take a look at the tweet of the official AS Roma account that went viral;

First Leg, Barca 4 - 1 AS Roma
After the first leg and a 4 - 1 win, only the most loyal fans of the Italian club believed that they could pass Messi and the rest.
But was this fair and objective thinking going into the second leg? No.
In the first tie, giallorossi could only blame themselves for this result, and maybe the good old lady luck in a fair percentage, like it turns its back on us in the newest UK casinos. They did score two unfortunate own goals.
But Roma didn’t play badly in the first 90 minutes of this tie. If anything, they could have been proud of the way they played, and build upon this positive fact for their next game against the Blaugrana.
One man knew this as well;

Eusebio Di Francesco. Take a bow son!
There will be a lot of talk on social media and the internet space about the atmosphere and player performance, and dully so, it all was more than amazing.
But I’ll give praise to the man in the dugout, AS Roma manager, Eusebio Di Francesco.
The former professional and ex Roma player with four years of service in the capital and one Seria A title in 2001, and an Italian national representative on 12 occasions, Eusebio Di Francesco is the next big thing on the Italian peninsula when we talk about managers.
As a player, Di Francesco was a hard-working and consistent midfielder, who, despite not being the most technically gifted footballer, possessed a solid first touch, and an ability to make attacking runs into the area.
Capable of playing both in the centre or on the wing, he was known in particular for his leadership, versatility, and exceptional stamina, as well as his tireless runs up and down the flank.
These are the qualities he also wants his players to possess, and the current first-team players genuinely do.
Eusebio is on a great path of becoming the next Italian mastermind of the game. And could pass the current ability of Massimiliano Allegri, Juve’s gaffer.
Those of you who watch Italian football will agree with me on this one.
Even thou, Di Francesco didn’t have the brightest of starts in the manager’s world, with unsuccessful reigns at Pescara and Lecce, he finally caught his chance with a Serie B side in 2012, Sassuolo.
He guided the team from Serie B to UEFA Europa League group stages in 5 years of service.
And then, on the 13th June 2017, the current manager, Luciano Spaleti, left for Inter, and another great signing from Roma’s board of directors who is not a player, but a Director of Football, ex Sevilla DoF, Monchi signed Eusebio as new AS Roma manager.

- “Our new sporting director Monchi singled out Eusebio Di Francesco and, with his style of play, we believe he’s the right fit for Roma,” - AS Roma president Jim Pallotta.
And as for the rest of the current season, the Serie A title is race ran by only one Zebra, but there are now only three more steps to Champions League glory.
With Eusebio Di Francesco, nothing is impossible now.
