Discover the most effective plug-and-play
tactics in Football Manager 2024, inspired by real-life managers like Xabi
Alonso and Arne Slot.
Let me tell you something that might sound a bit too familiar: you're ten games into your save, you've got world-class players, yet you're stuck mid-table. You’re tweaking instructions like a mad scientist, shouting at your laptop like it owes you money, and still—nothing. Been there. Done that.
That’s exactly why I made it my mission to test out the most overpowered plug-and-play tactics in FM24—and mate, I’ve got some bangers for you.
These five tactics aren’t just good—they’re ridiculously effective. They’ve been crafted or adapted by top real-life managers, but I’ve tested them in-game and fine-tuned them so even your assistant manager couldn’t mess them up.
Let’s dive straight in. And remember, links to all five downloadable tactics are included so you can plug them straight into your save.
1. Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid Domination (4-2-3-1)
This isn’t just a tactic—it’s poetry in motion. Narrow attacking shape, overlapping width from wide backs, and a midfield engine led by Bellingham and Camavinga. Add an IWB in the mix and you’ve got complete central dominance.
What makes it OP?
- Inverted Wing-Back (Alexander-Arnold) supports possession and stretches the middle.
- VOL + BWM combo provides balance between chaos and control.
- Mbappé up top—but even without him, your striker will feast.
Very fluid, very vertical. Pure domination.
2. Ruben Amorim Meets Manchester United (3-4-3 Hybrid)
Based on his Sporting CP philosophy, this system transforms United into a fluid, modern outfit. You get wide overloads, numerical control in midfield, and constant pressure.
Why it works:
- Three BPDs at the back = confident build-up.
- VOL and DM pivot ensures structure in transitions.
- AM duo behind CF wreak havoc.
It’s bold, brave, and brilliant—especially in leagues where transitions win you games.
What’s lethal here:
- Pedri as BBM + De Jong as DLP—press-resistant midfield heaven.
- Raphinha as SS & Yamal as IW = goals, goals, goals.
- AM + CF combo unlocks stubborn defences.
Fluidity is key here. You’ll outplay, outscore, and outpress most AI systems.
Why it's overpowered:
- Inside Forward (Diaz) and IW (Salah) constantly stretch and cut in.
- Szoboszlai as AM dictates tempo and attacks.
- FBs on defend hold shape and allow front 4 to dominate.
Expect pressing traps, quick recoveries, and fluid vertical play that overwhelms even elite AI.
5. Luis Enrique’s PSG Powerhouse (3-4-3 Progressive)
A modern 3-at-the-back system built on progressive movement and positional play. You don’t need elite players to make this work—but if you have them, it becomes unfair.
The magic formula:
- Vitinha as Regista is the silent metronome.
- BBM (Neves) + CM (Fabian) link every phase.
- IF (Kvara) + IW (Barcola) = width, goals, and vertical runs.
Great for players who enjoy fluid structures and tactical flexibility. You’ll smother opponents and pick them apart like a scalpel.
Final Whistle: Which One Will You Try First?
Whether you’re building a dynasty or saving a relegation scrap, one of these five tactics will change the game for you—literally.
