Liverpool made a signing of a talented twenty year old midfielder Emre Can, player that began his senior footballing career in Bayern Munich.
As said, Emre started his professional career at the German giant FC Bayern, but was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen last season where he was one of the main players in the team. Leverkusen managed to grab Champions League with Can helping them in the process with three goals and same amount of assists in 29 appearances.
Player that has Turkish roots was born in Frankfurt. He started his footballing career in a local club where he spent six years, followed by move to Frankfurt's Bundesliga club Eintracht. After three years in the biggest Frankfurt's club, Can received a transfer bid from the German champions Bayern.
Although expectations were high for U17 German captain, Can never managed to establish himself in the first team and had only played 4 games for the Bavarians. So he was loaned to Leverkusen in hope of gaining first team football. But once Pep Guardiola brought in Thiago Alcantara to Bayern, it was obvious that Can is no longer a needed player. Liverpool saw the opportunity to bring Emre to their side and reacted quickly with a bid of 12.000.000 €, which was his minimal release fee.
Emre Can's main advantage is his versatility on the pitch. He can play as left full back, defender centre and even as a winger, although his natural position is in the centre of the pitch. Also he is physically very strong and can use both feet.
He has the necessary height to be taken seriously in aerial challenges, and his long stride allows him to quickly move from defence to attack, so he often knows to take on counter-attacks on himself. He is the type of football player that plays equally well in front of his own penalty area, but also on the opposing side of the pitch, classic box-to-box midfielder.
Crossing from the flank is his main drawback. Although he knows how to send a long ball forward, the German simply can't cross if his life depended on it. Even thou this setback might not be so important, because his position in Liverpool is in the midfield of the pitch.
Emre is often compared to Bastian Schweinsteiger who plays similar style of football as Steven Gerrard, so there is no doubt from whom he'll learn while in Liverpool. Will Emre replace Stevie G at Liverpool? Does he have the potential for? And will he be one of the best wonderkids in Football Manager 2015? We'll have to wait and see, till then tell us your opinions Liverpool fans, is Emre set for glory at the Kop?
