What is Hertha BSC’s history?

As one of the most intriguing teams in German football, capital club Hertha BSC is a club that you can build up to be a genuine power. The club plays in the famous Olympiastadion, a close to 75-000 seater, and has been around since 1892. The club itself has had to go through a lot of changes in recent years, with investment in the last few years turning Hertha BSC into one of the biggest spending clubs in Europe.

Hertha have some history, though, having been a regular in the German top-flight and also being a founding member of the DFB. They won league titles in 1930 and 1931, but have not enjoyed enough success since then. Can you help to take a storied but unsuccessful club to the peak of European glory?

An expensive squad will see you have to make progress from day one, with Hertha a twitchy club if you do not make progress from day one. There is a lot to think about, and you have money to spend; probably more money to spend than anyone but the major Bundesliga powers. The fact you are in Berlin makes it easier to attract players, too.

Lars Windhorst is the chief financier of the modern Hertha BSC, and you are expected to appease him and an expectant board with fast results. This means building a team quickly, getting them playing attacking football, and winning matches to get you at least into the UEFA  Champions League. Even qualifying for the UEFA Europa League might not be enough.

Who are the best players at Hertha BSC?

Luckily for you, there is a fair amount of talent to play with at this club. One place to start is with Dutch duo Daishawn Redan and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Both are modern, exciting players who are probably good enough to play a squad role in your first season. Get them development, though, because they can be excellent first-team regulars in the years to come.

You have quite a lot of Bundesliga level talent to pick from, as well as some intriguing early-20s talents who have not yet made their way in the game. The likes of Davie Selke and Maxi Mittelstadt are very impressive players, but need coaching to build consistency.

Your key players to build around include Dodi Lukebakio and Santiago Ascascibar, two young players with huge potential if used correctly. You have some reliable names to use, too, such as the experienced Steven Jovetic and Dedryck Boyata. You could also rely upon Vladimir Derida and Lucas Tousart to add some steel to the middle of the pitch.

Suat Serdar, Niklas Stark, and Krzysztof Piatek are probably your best bet for players who should be starting most games as they are among your best midfielders, defenders, and forwards. There is talent at Hertha BSC, but also a lot of imbalance; your job is to find the right balance before the board lose patience.
