Jose Mourinho vs David Moyes – Game of Manchester United

Jose Mourinho vs David Moyes Man UTD

Here we go! Jose Mourinho vs David Moyes in a FM simulation as Man UTD managers. Let’s find out who will be a better pick between the two. Also, Sir Alex Ferguson is set as a Director of Football.

There has been a lot of speculation of who will take charge at Manchester United once Sir Alex Ferguson retires from the game, and two names are most often mentioned in the press, names of current Real Madrid manager Jose ‘The Special One’ Mourinho and David ‘The Chosen One’ Moyes, current manager at Everton.

So out of fun, we decided to make a little FM simulation with two different scenarios. In one Jose would lead Man UTD, and the other obviously is David Moyes as Man UTD manager. We edited them both as managers, and let the game roll for one season. Also, we added Sir Alex Ferguson as a Director of Football at United. So let’s find out who does the game prefer better.

David Moyes season at Manchester United

David Moyes Manchester United Manager

So in our simulation, David Moyes had enjoyed great success in his first season at Old Trafford. Big shoes to fill but he did that great. He added 21st league title, and brought FA trophy back „home“ after 9 years. Lost in Champions League Semifinals to City, and defeated against QPR in 3rd round of the League Cup.

Two big summer signings, Sandro from Tottenham for £19M, and last day “panic buy” of David Alaba for £17.5M. He managed to sell Anderson for £9M to PSG and got rid of Utd boy Cleverly to Tottenham for £12.75M. Not a busy transfer window for Red Devils as he had faith in the current Man Utd squad.

He played a 4-2-3-1 attacking style which resulted in scoring 76 goals for and 31 against, 24 victories, 10 draws and only 4 defeats. His home record was not so good, but playing away was brilliant with only 1 loss against QPR. In matches with top 4 rivals he only lost against City 2:1 at Old Trafford. He holds almost perfect score with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Interesting though that in 2 matches against Everton he managed to get two 1:1 draws.

Moyes tactic with Man UTD

Regarding players he did rotate his squad with no one playing all Premier League matches. David De Gea had 37 with 31 goals conceded, keeping 16 clean sheets. Sandro played the most 35 contributing with 9 goals and 5 assists. Solid performance for MC but with only 7,18 average rating. Combination of Rooney in AMC and rotation of RVP and Chicarito as attackers scored 37 goals in Premier League, Rooney 16, RVP 15, Hernandez 6, but with already mentioned Sandro, Alaba (who often played as MC) and Young snatched 7 goals for themselves. In all competitions the “trio” scored 57 goals. Rooney was the best assistant with 12 assists followed by Carrick with 11. Best player of the campaign was Rooney with average rating of 7,67.

Interesting though is that Moyes did not use Smalling and Phil Jones as much as some other players, Jones only 16 starting appearances and Smalling 19 In all competitions. Hard rock in the defense, and also captain of the team was Nemanja Vidić with solid contribution as a Moyes hand on the pitch.

He won Premier League with 2 points gap in front of the Arsenal and 8 points in front of third placed City. He also took FA cup to Old Trafford but let’s be honest he did not have a tough competition due to bad performances from top 5 clubs. He obviously didn’t care for League Cup as he got relegated in Man Utd first match against QPR. And it was fine performance in Champions League. 1st Group stage finish with 1 defeat. Gladbach and Chelsea knocked out, City in semifinals but with 0:0 at Etihad and 2:2 on Old Trafford City went through to be defeated by Bayern Munich in the final. Biggest win was against Norwich 5:0 and “biggest” defeat was against West Ham, City and Fulham all finished 2:1.

Jose Mourinho season at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho as Man UTD manager

Despite that he is a much ‘larger’ name in football world, Jose Mourinho didn’t do so well as David Moyes in his first season as Utd manager. Not a single title won, finished 3rd in the Premier league, and knocked out from every major cup competition, more about that later on.

Believe it or not, but Mourinho like David Moyes, also brought Sandro from Tottenham for £19.5M and David Alaba from FC Bayern for £18M, a total of £37.5M transfer spent. And just like Moyes, he managed to sell Cleverly to Tottenham for £12.75M and Anderson to Juventus for £9M. So also, it would seem that Mourinho had faith in Man UTD squad.

He played a 4-2-3-1 balanced style which in return resulted in scoring 66 goals scored and 39 conceded, 23 victories, 4 draws and 11 loses in English Premier Division. He finished 3rd both looking the table for just home games and away. So the battle for English Premier League goes to David Moyes.

Mourinhos tactic with Man UTD

He also rotated his squad during the season. David De Gea suprisengly started 24 matches in the league, conceding 16 goals and keeping his clean sheet in 14 matches. Sandro started the most, with 36 appearances, adding 4 goals and assists, with an average rating of 7.04. His attacking trio Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and RVP scored 27 goals in Premier League, Chicarito 10, Rooney 9 and RVP 8. Surprisingly, best scorer was none of the mentioned attackers, but Ashley Young, who played mostly as AML and scoring 13 goals in EPL. For of them combined scored 61 goals in all competitions. Player with most assists was Wayne Rooney with 16 assists made in all competitions. And the highest average rated player was Michael Carrick with 7.66.

He finished 3rd in EPL, 13 points behind the winners City, and just 1 point behind 2nd placed Liverpool. Arsenal came well in 4th place trailing 5 points behind. He was eliminated in FA Cup Semi Final against Stoke, losing 1:0 in regular time. And was also knocked out League Cup against Man City in Qtr Final, losing the game 3:1 in extra time. Not a great run in Champions League either, finishing 2nd behind Benfica, and later on got knocked out in the quarter final to PSG, 4:3 the aggregate score.

Conclusion

It would seem that United squad didn’t really well adapt the style of play that Mourinho brought with him. Maybe he would be a good choice if he stayed for a long period. But knowing Mourinho, he’d most probalby leave the squad after 2 or 3 seasons, as he always does.

So in general conclusion, David Moyes is definitely, at least for me a true red devil, the best choice for SAF replacement, and who knows maybe in a decade we’ll talk about Sir David Moyes.

Sir Alex Ferguson –True Football Manager

Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

A great legend, leader, and a true football manager has announced his retirement from the wonderful game of football at the end of this season. This will be our little contribution and a final respect to a true master of all managers, Sir Alex Ferguson…

This is the end of a great era in which Manchester United had its greatest accomplishments, and they can thank it all to one man, Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson, born in Glasgow on 31st December 1941. The era began 26 years ago, when the charismatic Scot took over at the helm of Manchester United.

History as a manager

His first venture into management was with East Stirlingshire where he was appointed in June 1974. After leaving The Shire, Ferguson took charge of St. Mirren where he stayed until June 1978. Ferguson’s Buddies team lifted the Scottish First Division in 1977.

After leaving The Buddies, Ferguson enjoyed an eight year spell at Aberdeen. During his time with The Dons, Ferguson’s team lifted the Clydesdale Bank Premier League in 1980, 1984 and 1985, won the Scottish FA Cup 4 times between 1982 and 1986, won the European Cup Winner Cup in 1983, won the European Super Cup in 1983 and won the Scottish League Cup in 1985.

Ferguson also had a brief spell in charge of Scotland between October 1985 and July 1986.

Ferguson joined his current club Manchester United in November 1986 and has managed the Red Devils for an incredible twenty-six years. Under his guidance, Ferguson’s Manchester United side have lifted the FA Cup in 1990, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2004, won the Community Shield 9 times between 1990 and 2010, won the European Cup Winner Cup in 1991, won the European Super Cup in 1991, won the League Cup 4 times between 1992 and 2010, won the Premier League 13 times between 1993 and 2013, won the Champions League in 1999 and 2008, won the Intercontinental Cup in 1999 and won the Club World Championship in 2008.

Sir Alex has been recognised for his talent and achievements with several awards: Named English Premier Division Manager of the Year on ten occasions.

Alex Ferguson attributes in Football Manager 2013

Alex Ferguson attributes in FM13

He always had a World Class reputation that was followed with great attributes. And have you noticed how guys from Sports Interactive somehow knew that he will retire at the end of this season!?

Every time we played in Premier League, Sir Alex retired at the end of the first season and his replacement would be, most of the times, Jose Mourunho. Will this be the case in real life? Well we will have to wait and see.

Announcing his decision to retire, Sir Alex Ferguson said:

“The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time.

“It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so. The quality of this league winning squad, and the balance of ages within it, bodes well for continued success at the highest level whilst the structure of the youth set-up will ensure that the long-term future of the club remains a bright one.

“Our training facilities are amongst the finest in global sport and our home Old Trafford is rightfully regarded as one of the leading venues in the world.

“Going forward, I am delighted to take on the roles of both Director and Ambassador for the club. With these activities, along with my many other interests, I am looking forward to the future.

“I must pay tribute to my family, their love and support has been essential. My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career.”

Our final words

There is not much left to say that hasn’t been said already. We, as a Football Manager players and manager wannabes, give our greatest respect to Sir Alex.

You were, and still will be an amazing inspiration not just to us FM players, but also to real life managers that look up to you and admire your work and your career. We hope you’ll still stay in football as an Director of Football and continue your great work in a different field at the club.

Only one unanswered question remains… Who will now take the hot seat of Manchester United? Some speculate it will be Jose Mourinho, the others say it will be another great Scotsman, David Moyes the current manager of Everton. What’s your opinion?

No matter who ever replaces him, will never reach the same glory as Sir Alex.

Once again, thank You Sir Alex, we will forever miss you on the football pitch, you were the one and only.

FM13 Director Of Football

Director of Football FM13

This is a new personnel available in the latest version of Football Manager. Just exactly how much do we know about ‘Director of Football’, what are his main obligations in the club, and finally who are the best directors of football available in the game…

First of let’s see how did the guys from Sports Interactive described the role of Director of Football:

So as we can see from the video, the main purpose for Director of Football in FM13 is to take care of certain aspects of the club, so you can focus more on your team.

What can Director of Football actually do for you?

You can assign your Director of Football to take care of various stuff at a club, such as:

  • Fire or hire staff at your team
  • Assign scouts
  • Bring in possible first team and youth signings
  • Find a suitable club for your transfer or loan listed players

Further on, now we have three new shortlists that come alongside with Director of Football, they are:

  • Transfer Targets – list of players that you’d like to see in your club, and also can be set to what urgency do you want that player. Set it, and let the Director do his business.
  • Unwanted List – list of players whom you don’t need anymore, and would like to get rid of them. Director of Football we see it that these players are gone from the club.
  • Development List – list of youngsters at the club that you wont still be starting in the first team, but would like them to play on a loan. Director of Football will try to find the most suitable clubs for your players.

Attributes needed for a good Director of Football

For finding good young players and first team ones, he’ll need attributes:

  • Judging Player Potential
  • Judging Player Ability

Also his scouting knowledge should be fairly good, more nations in his resume the better:

  • Scouting Knowledge
  • Adaptability

Next, if you set him to negotiate transfers for your behalf, he should also need to have:

  • Determination
  • Motivation

These are the 6 most important attributes that any reasonable Director of Football should have. It also doesn’t hurt if his other attributes are good, such as Tactical knowledge, Working with youngsters and Reputation.

FM13 Crush Dump FIX

FM13 Crush Dump Fix

Crush dump is the worst nightmare of every Football Manager player ever. Nothing in this world is perfect, and the same goes for our favourite footy simulation. Every now and then, we encounter the crash dump and freak our minds out, so now let us try and fix this annoying problem once and for all.

First of, what is a crash dump? It’s a generic name for any type of crash you encounter when running FM, and basically all crush dumps are files that contain information to what kind of crash you have. Deleting these files will most definitely not solve your crush dump problems.

So what is there to do then?

First, we’ll try to resolve this situation by removing any custom graphics/logos/skins/faces etc that you might have added to your game. After removing such files, try playing your game and see if the crush dump occurs again.

If removing custom added graphics to your game didn’t solve your crush dump problems, then try one of the following:

  • Deleting your settings files
  • Verifying your game cache
  • Changing from GPU rendering

Deleting your settings files

To delete your cache outside of the game, please do the following:

Firs of all you need to turn on hidden files and folders.

For XP users: My Computer » ‘Tools’ » ‘Folder Options’ » Then go to the ‘View’ tab and select ‘Show hidden files and folder’

For Win Vista & 7 users: My Computer »  ‘Organize’ » ‘Folder and Search Options’ » Then go to ‘View’ tab and select ‘Shoe hidden files and folders’

Once your hidden files and folders are enabled (visible), delete the following:

For XP users: My Computer » ‘Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ » ‘Sports Interactive’ » ‘Football Manager 2013’ » Delete the ‘cache’ folder found inside here.

For Win Vista & 7 users: Start » click on your username on the start menu » AppData »  Roaming » Sports Interactive » Delete the ‘Football Manager 2013’ Folder.

Verifying your game cache

1. Load Steam

2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.

3. Select the Local Files tab and click the ‘VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAMECACHE…’ button.

4. Steam will verify the game’s files – this process may take several minutes to complete.

5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

6. It’s recommended that you verify your cache twice to make sure all files are fully downloaded.

FM 13 Crush dump problem fix

Changing from GPU rendering

This can be done in the preferences of your FM game, under ‘Interface –> Interface Rendering Mode.’

Change it form GPU assisted to Software.

If you for some reason cannot access your preferences in the game, then press and hold:

ALT + SHIFT + F10 all at the same time.

Conclusion

If none of that worked, then you should create your OWN thread within Sports Interactive Tech Issues/Crashes sub-forum which can be found here – SI Tech sub-forum

Within this thread you’ll need to tell the tech guys, when exactly does the game crash. Is it always on the same date, or is it random? Have you used any type of editing tool? If so, what changes did you make? If your crash is always on the same date and the above steps haven’t helped, then you’ll need to upload your save game to their FTP (file transfer protocol) and let them know the files name and date it crashes within your own thread. FTP details here - http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/345403

Once this has been done, a member of Sports Interactive technical team will be able to reply to your thread and attempt to resolve your issue.

Official January Transfer Update 13.3.0 Released!

January Transfer Update FM13 13.3

Finally Sports Interactive released out of their workshop the January Transfer Update 13.3.0! We all expected it to be in early March, but the guys from SI surprised us yet again, what a great year to be a Football Manager fan!

So as we said, Miles Jacobson was the one who gave us the info that the official January transfer update won’t be out till early March. But the team managed to complete it at the last day of February.

All the changes made regarding Match Engine, Competitions, Game Editor etc. you can find on the official Sports Interactive Community forum.

Let’s see in brief what the lads changed with the newest update 13.3.0

Neil Brock, Sports Interactive

On behalf of everyone at Sports Interactive I’m proud to announce the release of the January Transfer Data Update, 13.3.0.

If you start a new game, you will be given an option to start with two databases, the default database (13.0) or the 13.3.0 Update. Included within are all the latest transfers and updated squads. So if you want to see Beckham strut his stuff at PSG, watch Balotelli back in Milan or lead the French revolution at Newcastle now’s your chance. To use the latest data you will need to start a new game following the update. The data is compatible with both modes, full Football Manager and Football Manager Classic.

Also included are a number of other changes and fixes within the update which, as always, are save game compatible. So if you’re in no rush to use the latest data you’re fine to continue your current save.

To update you will need to close the game down and re-launch for it to update. If this does not work for you or you feel it has not updated you will need to restart Steam. Please remember that as the data update is larger than some of our previous updates, it may take a little longer to download. Once updated the version number will be 13.3.0, more specifically the full version numbers are listed below:

PC: 353820
Mac: 353819

Please remember as with all data updates, short-term loans are not included, and some late transfers/managerial changes or those conducted after February 1st 2013 may not be included. So for all of you starting new games or just carrying on with your long-term career save, we very much hope you enjoy playing Football Manager 2013.

Thanks.

Once again, if you want to see the full list of changes made, go to official Sports Interactive forum and check it our for yourself.

Then open the game , click Start a new game , and then a box will open. Under the database you have to choose, you will find a small box beside the Editor Data Files , with a small box and next to it Changes. Make sure the box is ticked and then OK.
