
Player personalities in Football Manager play a very important role in determining how a player behaves in various circumstances in the game. In many cases, it even determines whether the player goes on to fulfil his potential or not.
It is always better to look at the personalities of your player after you take over a club to know your players a bit better.
A player’s personalities affect his
- Match Performances
- Progression and affinity towards training
- Plans for the future & general happiness
- Relationship with his teammates, coaching staff and manager (you)
- Interactions and reaction to Media.
By affecting his match performances and reaction to situations, it indirectly affects his morale and ability to adapt to situations.
A Player’s personality is largely determined by two in-game attributes that are visible in the player attribute page and seven hidden attributes.
The two attributes are, “Determination” & “Leadership”.
The seven hidden attributes are;
- Ambition
- Controversy
- Loyalty
- Pressure
- Professionalism
- Sportsmanship
- Temperament
It is obviously very beneficial to know your player personalities and how to deal with them when it comes to signing new players, especially regens as their personality strongly influences their growth in the game.
There are several personalities in Football Manager, some positive, some neutral and some negative.
Let us look at the different personalities that the game has to offer.
Positive Personalities
As the name suggests, positive personalities are greatly beneficial to a player and generally make them easier to man manage and also indirectly helps the player in reaching his potential.
The positive personalities in Football Manager are;

- Perfectionist
- Resolute
- Model professional
- Professional
- Fairly professional
- Spirited
- Very ambitious
- Ambitious
- Driven
- Determined
- Fairly determined
- Charismatic leader
- Born leader
- Leader
- Iron willed
- Resilient
Neutral Personalities
As the name suggests, players with neutral personalities have some positive attributes and some negatives with generally the positives outweighing the negatives.
The examples of Neutral personalities in Football Manager are;
- Jovial
- Light-hearted
- Devoted / Very loyal
- Loyal
- Fairly loyal
- Honest
- Sporting
- Fairly sporting
- Unsporting (Newgen/Regen only)
- Realist (Newgen/Regen only)
- Balanced
Negative Personalities
As the name suggests, players with negative personalities are generally harder to manage.
They sometimes do have a couple of positive attributes but the negatives strongly outweigh the positive and it is better as a manager to steer clear from such players.
Negative personalities are only assigned to regens (newgens) and not already existing players in the database.
The negative personalities are;
- Slack
- Casual
- Temperamental
- Unambitious
- Easily discouraged
- Low determination
- Spineless
- Low self-belief
Conclusion
Most of the personalities are self-descriptive and as mentioned earlier, when scouting regens, it is always advisable to look for only positive/neutral personality.
It will definitely make the player easier to manage.
