The summer Olympics have finally come to a close. These games ended with a lot mixed emotions. We said goodbye to some great sports men and women who have captivated us in the past games. Among those to say good bye to the Olympics are Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Kirsty Coventry.

However, it was not the goodbyes to these great athletes that stole the closing ceremony. Rather it was the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dressed up as Nintendo's Mario that stole the show.

After such spectacular appearance one has to wonder about the full extent of Nintendo's activities at the Olympics. The gaming giant didn't come up with the idea to have the Japanese PM dress up as Mario to close the show. Nintendo is not even officially associated with the 2020 Olympics. The idea was a product of the Tokyo Organising Committee.

This is not to say the games developer didn't try and capitalise on the games. They released their Olympic themed game for the Wii U console during the games. The game is called "Mario and Sonic at the Olympics". As the name suggests these two video game celebrities will be competing in Olympic Games in the video game. Pokémon Go was also released in Rio to coincide with the Olympics.

The company’s shares rose significantly with the Release of Pokémon Go then slumped. Mario’s appearance at the Rio 2016 closing ceremony also resulted in the company’s shares rising. This period of the Olympics has seen a lot of action on Nintendo's stocks. The action has been so thrilling. It has been like playing real money online casino slots where the next play could see you win big or loss big. Despite how speculators on the stock markets faired with the Nintendo stocks the company made a fair amount of profit during the games.
