Really interesting discussion caught our attention on the official Sports Interactive community forums. The topic is: ‘Should SI create their own RTE?’…
As we all know, there already is a great third party software that can edit FM in real time. Real Time Editor from BraCa. It works great, and it is updated regularly whenever SI throws out a new patch for FM.
The only problem about it is, that it’s not free. Although it doesn’t cost much, some people just don’t want to pay for a product that they are uncertain if it works or not, and we don’t blame them.
Last years release FMRTE for FM12 costs 2,99€, and for FM13 4,99€. They’ve had over 600K downloads, and it raises the question, will they be hurt much if SI releases their own Real Time Editor.
Some of the comments from the discussion
I say yes because I can use it for research purposes then and track hidden attributes of players when I'm doing training related stuff. – Cleon
Well, it's no secret that a big amount of people use it, so might as well have a reliable one with 100% coherence with a save file and no chance of file corruption. In theory it seems like a win win situation. (except for that "certain product" which will lose its popularity.) – Johnyfooty
I think they should if it can be more stable than the other editors that are out there. I don't use them any more but I have no problem with people that do so I think it'd be a bonus to many people if there was a stable decent SI made real time editor out there. In my opinion it'd need something that stops it being used in online games or informs the other players that a user has used it. – AcidBurn
While I wouldn't use it, they might as well since it's better to have an official one, as opposed to a 'hypothetical' third party one. – deltablue
I'm in as long as it is free. Otherwise it's just as "evil" as EA or that third-party. – Nik_Dut
For Official RTE or against it?
In our opinion, official RTE would be a way to go. It’s always better to have an official version of any software, than the third party one. Also, it would be great if players wont have to pay any extra money for it.
Also, there is a poll on the official discussion, and so far out of 266 voters, 211 (79.32%) have said YES to an Official version of Real Time Editor, and 55 (20.68%) have said NO.
Tell us your opinion on this matter, should SI make an official RTE or not?
It’s official! RTE for FM14!
Just as soon as we released the story, Miles Jacobson has confirmed that there will be Official Real Time Editor available as a paid download. There’s not price tag yet.
Lucky the poll vote was positive (80%+)! Official Real Time Editor available as a paid download (cost tbc) for FM14 sim mode. #FM14info

Although we are very pleased that we’ll finally get an official Real Time Editor for FM, the part that it will be a paid download is not something we expected. Hopefully, we’ll get on more details on official RTE soon.
Also there will be no cheating with the Official RTE, wheel actually yes there will be, but you won’t be allowed that save on the leaderborads.
And yes, we will be able to tell if you've used it. So you'll not be allowed that save on the leaderboards. But WILL get tech support.
