Football Manager 2017 hidden gems are players that are relatively unknown but are suitable for any team in FM17. Best thing is that they are really cheap even thou they can be promising youngsters or even already established first team players.


Once again I turn to the Football Manager community and asked them have they found any players in FM 2017 who they considered to be a hidden gem, and sure enough, the community once again replied with great suggestions to my query.

More than fifty players were suggested, but I decided to present to you 19 of the relatively unknown players I think are the best. As I expected most of them are promising youngsters from the South American continent, but there are also a few European players I really liked and who had to end up on this list.

Some of them you can find on the Football Manager 2017 Wonderkids list, and some of them can be found on the bargains list in FM17.

Let's go straight to the top 19 hidden diamonds in Football Manager 2017, I've sorted them by scouting recommendation from lowest to the highest.

Marcus Pedersen / Team: Strømsgodset / Est. Cost: £156k / Position: ST

Marcus Pedersen

Marcus Pedersen is a name mainly known to those with a strong interest in Norewigan football. He would be a decent signing for most Championship sides according to his current ability.

PROS: has high work rate, his strongest attribute. Low wage demands. Consistent performer. Good team player. Balanced and normal personality.

CONS: Adaptability, doesn't enjoy big matches. Versatility - is natural in only one position. Weakest attribute is his lack of determination that can hinder him in certain situations.

Fredrik Haugen / Team: SK Brann / Est. Cost: £126k / Position: AM C

Fredrik Haugen

Fredrik Haugen is yet another rather unknown player from Norwegian league. He has potential to be good Championship player in the future.

PROS: Low wage demands. Versatility - is natural in couple of positions. Balanced and normal personality. Adaptability. Enjoys big matches. Ability to strike ball from distance makes this player a constant threat for opposition.

CONS: Poor heading ability means he's never likely to be useful in aerial situations. Marking. Has a competitive streak.

Liam Mandeville / Team: Doncaster / Est. Cost: £192k / Position: AM/F C

Liam Mandeville

Liam Mandeville is an youngster with lot of potential and a plenty of time to develop ahead of him. With a low estimated cost he should be your prime candidate for a transfer if you are in a hunt for a striker.

PROS: Eligibility, players counts towards players who trained in England for three years. Ability to strike a ball sweetly makes him a good finisher. Good technique especially when striking a football. Can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Current ability makes him very well-suited to League 1 football. Most he could develop in the future is to be a Championship striker. Could do with being taught how to be ab effective aerial presence. Has some improvements to make in his physical strength.

Alex Gersbach / Team: Rosenborg BK / Est. Cost: £261k / Position: D/WB L

Alex Gersbach

Alex Gersbach is a name mainly known in Australia. His current ability makes him very well-suited to League 1 football.

PROS: Displays resolute characteristics. Overall top speed. Potential to be a Premier League left-back in the future. Fairly adaptable when it comes to living in another country. Fairly consistent performer. Can play in a couple of positions. Is a current international.

CONS: Is very one-footed. Could do with being taught how to be an effective aerial presence. Has work to do in the heading department.

Sebastian Szymanski / Team: Legia / Est. Cost: £329k / Position: DM, AM C

Sebastian Szymanski

Sebastian Szymanski is a young Polish midfielder from Legia Warszawa how is an ideal signing for the future if you need a reliable midfielder. Is very well-suited to League 1 football.

PROS: Versatility - is a natural in a couple of positions. Could improve a lot in the future. Is a fairly loyal person. Adaptability. Possesses a fair amount of pace. Ability to strike a ball from distance makes this player a constant danger to the opposition.

CONS: Still has to refine his positional sense. Is very one-footed. Must do a better job when it comes to marking.

Owain Jones / Team: Swansea / Est. Cost: £531k / Position: AM RL, ST

Owain Jones

Owain Jones is a player with a growing reputation among football fans in England. Jones made his senior debut in the Sky Bet League 2, playing for Yeovil Town.

PROS: Ability to do the unexpected is one of the main reasons behind his ability to go past his man. Low wage demands. Eligibility league and continental. Can play in couple of positions. Posses a fair amount of pace.

CONS: Potential ability makes him only a good Championship right winger in the future. Needs to work on becoming more consistent if he is to develop further. Fairly susceptible to injuries. Has some improvements to make in his physical strength.

Joel Fameyeh / Team: Dinamo Brest / Est. Cost: £17k / Position: AM/F C

Joel Fameyeh

Joel Fameyeh is a 19-year-old striker that has a potential to be a Championship striker in the future. His current ability makes him very well-suited to League 1 football.

PROS: Has a full understanding of English language. Adaptability. First touch is key to him being a technical player. Good off-the-ball movement and decision make for a fairly intelligent player. Can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Would probably fail to gain a work permit. Is very one-footed. Lack of balance can make the player unsure when in control og the ball.

Gonzalo Martínez / Team: River / Est. Cost: £2.5m / Position: AM LC

Gonzalo Martínez

Gonzalo Martínez is a player with a growing reputation among football fans in Argentina and Football Manager 2017 players. Martinez would probably be available for between £2.5m and £3.4m, small price to pay for a player who would be a good signing for most Premier league side.

PROS: Low estimated cost. Ability to do the unexpected is one of the main reasons behind his ability to go past his man. Would require a work permit which is likely to be accepted during initial application. Posses great pace. Is a fairly loyal person. Fairly adaptable when it come to living in another country. Enjoys big matches. Can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Poor heading ability means he's never likely to be useful in aerial situations. Would need to learn English. Fairly selfish player.

William Pottker / Team: Internacional / Est. Cost: £10.1m / Position: AM R, ST

William Pottker

William Pottker is a well-known name for football fans across South America. With a price tag of 10m, William Pottker is one of the more expensive players on this list of Football Manager 2017 hidden gem players.

PROS: Would get work permit accepted during the initial application. Consistent performer. Posses great pace. Overall top speed. Is natural in a couple of positions. Adaptability. Player could successfully be re-trained as an attacking midfielder.

CONS: Fairly poor in the air. Poor heading ability means he's never likely to be useful in aerial situations.

Jake Vokins / Team: Southampton / Est. Cost: £750k / Position: D L

Jake Vokins

Jake Vokins could be your great investment for the future for your team in Football Manager 2017. This young full-back could serve your team for years to come and the exceptionally low estimated cost makes him a great buy.

PROS: Player counts towards league and continental eligibility. Could improve a lot in the future. Acceleration underpins his overall speed. Can play in a couple of positions. Could be successfully re-trained as a wing-back.

CONS: Could do with being taught how to be an effective aerial presence. Lack of natural fitness is reflected by a lehargy in his game. Needs to work on becoming more consistent if he is to develop further.

Mihailo Ristic / Team: Red Star / Est. Cost: £649k / Position: D/WB L, AM LC

Mihailo Ristic

Mihailo Ristic is a young player with a growing reputation among football fans in Serbia and was actually submitted by a gamer from Serbia who plays Football Manager 2017. Given that Serbia enters EU in three seasons into the game, Ristic will have no problems with work permit.

PROS: Work permit is likely to be accepted during the initial application. Fairly adaptable when it come to living in another country. Fairly consistent performer. Strong penalty taker. Possesses a fair amount of pace. Can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Could do with being taught how to be an effective aerial presence. Needs to work on becoming more clinical in front of goal.

Queensy Menig / Team: PEC Zwolle / Est. Cost: £2.2m / Position: AM RLC, F C

Queensy Menig

Queensy Menig is a player with a growing reputation among football fans in Holland and Football Manager 2017 players. Menig, who is valued at £650K, is currently on loaned at PEC Zwolle from Ajax.

PROS: Low estimated cost and low wage demands. Could adapt well to living in another country. Very agile. Potential to be a Premier League striker in the future. Has a basic understanding of the language. Possesses a fair amount of pace. Very versatile, can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Could do with being taught how to be an effective aerial presence. Inability to leap off the ground makes the player a vulnerable target in the air.

Shaqir Tafa / Team: Palermo / Est. Cost: £700k / Position: D C

Shaqir Tafa

Shaqir Tafa is a young promising centre-back from Albania and currently playing for Palermo's youth squad. He is really unknown amongst Football Manager 2017 players so this makes him a true hidden gem.

PROS: Low wage demands and low estimated cost. Consistent performer. Ability to leap off the ground makes the player a force to be reckoned with in the air. Could improve a lot in the future. Fairly adaptable when it comes to living in another country. Good in the air.

CONS: Current ability makes him very well-suited to League 2 football. Can only play in one position. Poor Technique.

Rafael Tresaco / Team: Zaragoza / Est. Cost: £400k / Position: ST

Rafael Tresaco

Rafael Tresaco is the youngest player on this list of hidden gems in Football Manager 2017, with being only 15-years-old. This young striker is showing remarkable potential and is worth keping an eye on his development.

PROS: Low wage demands and low estimated cost. Could improve a lot in the future. Has a basic understanding of English language. Possesses a fair amount of pace. Ability to dribble makes him a difficult opponent to come up against.

CONS: Tendency not to get stuck into rough challenges can put his teammates under some pressure. Selfish player. Would likely encounter problems adapting to a new country at a young age. Needs to work on becoming more consistent if he is to develop further.

Afonso Sousa / Team: FC Porto / Est. Cost: £900k / Position: AM C

Afonso Sousa

Afonso Sousa is one of those youngster that you simply can't miss in Football Manager 2017, and if there is a chance of signing him for your club then you should definitely do so. Only 16 years of age, Sousa is a youngster that has plenty of time to develop into a world-class player.

PROS: Ability to do the unexpected is one of the main reasons behind his ability to go past his man. Is a natural in a couple of positions. Could improve a lot in the future. Handles himself in a fairly professional manner. Adaptability. Fairly consistent performer. Balance and ability on the ball make him a fairly skillful player. The player could successfully be re-trained as a defensive midfielder.

CONS: Is very one-footed. Must do a better job when it comes to marking.

Tomás Conechny / Team: San Lorenzo / Est. Cost: £1.85m / Position: ST

Tomás Conechny

Tomás Conechny is a young Argentinian striker that has a potential to become world-class in the near future. Conechny would probably be available for between £1.85m and £3.5m.

PROS: Low wage demands. Ability to make the right decision is one of the main reasons behind this player's intelligence on the pitch. Potential to be a Premier League striker in the future. Adaptability. Possesses a fair amount of pace. The player could successfully be re-trained as an attacking midfielder.

CONS: Would probably fail to gain a work permit. Would need to learn English. Can play in only on position. Fairly selfish player. Tendency not to get stuck into rough challenges can put his teammates under some pressure.

Maximiliano Romero / Team: Vélez / Est. Cost: £3.95m / Position: ST

Maximiliano Romero

Maximiliano Romero is your man if you are in a pursuit for a strong target-man in Football Manager 2017. There is a lot of time for him to develop, but the work permit problem might be an obstacle that will put many managers off.

PROS: Could improve a lot in the future. Strength and stamina make him a decent athlete. Strong player. Can play in a couple of positions. The player could successfully be re-trained as an attacking midfielder.

CONS: Would probably fail to gain a work permit. Would likely encounter problems adapting to a new country at a young age. Needs to work on becoming more consistent if he is to develop further.

Francisco Trincão / Team: SC Braga / Est. Cost: £37k / Position: AM RL

Francisco Trincão

Francisco Trincão is probably the best hidden gem in Football Manager 2017. When you are only 16-year-old and clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid are already interested in a transfer it can only mean that we have a world-class player in the making on our hands. And the price of 37K is peanuts to what you could get for this player once he reaches his prime.

PORS: Tincao would probably cbe available for between 37K and 82K. Low wage demands. Ability to do the unexpected is one of the main reasons behind his ability to go past his man. Is natural in a couple of positions. Could improve a lot in the future. Adaptability. Possesses a fair amount of pace.

CONS: Has work to do in the heading department. Is very one-footed. Fairly selfish player.

Ezequiel Barco / Team: Independiente / Est. Cost: £5.69m / Position: AM RLC

Ezequiel Barco

Ezequiel Barco is one player that was mentioned by far the most members of the Football Manager 2017 community, and for a fair reason as this young attacking midfielder from Argentina becomes one of the world-class midfield playmakers in the game.

PROS: Could adapt well to living in another country, so sending him on a loan to some Spanish's club in order to gain EU citizenship is a good thing. Ability to make the right decision is one of the main reasons behind this payer's intelligence on the pitch. Could improve a lot in the future. Possesses a fair amount of pace. Can play in a couple of positions.

CONS: Would probably fail to gain a work permit. Has work to do in the heading department.
