If you’re in charge of a team not part of the old ‘Big 4’, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool although Manchester City need to be included, then there is a chance of getting a world beater who could improve your team immensely. Even if you are in charge of one of the big clubs, then you can still give this a try.
This player goes by the name of Wayne Rooney, now you may be thinking this is ridiculous and sounds crazy but it is more than achievable than you think especially if you are a player who likes a long term career on the game. I’m currently the manager of Manchester United and just started my third season. The previous season we completed a Premier League and Champions League double, Wayne Rooney was not really a part of this. He had decided just after the summer transfer window had shut that he wanted to leave the club to try a new challenge. Now, I tried to convince him that his future lied at my club but he wasn’t having any of it meaning I needed him to stay until January or even the end of the season.
2 weeks later he picked up a serious injury, keeping him out for 7-8 months that would keep him out for most of the season. To be honest and I even surprised myself with this, he wasn’t a regular player in my team and would often be on the bench. This was because I have world class players such as Barbosa, Martial, Rashford and James Wilson in my ranks who were all ahead of him.
So, to the transfer of Rooney at the end of my second season. His current worth was £20million and I wasn’t sure what type of bids I would be attracting especially with his current wages of 300K a week. After trying to secure the best deal I could, Crystal Palace were the ones who came in and offered £15million for his services. I accepted and the deal was done. The fans were sceptical but accepted my decision to sell.
I have kept an eye on him to see how well he progresses in the Palace team and the results are no surprise, he has played 6 games and scored 8 goals.
I am not saying everyone will be able sign Rooney in the second season but there is a definite case to keep an eye on him and maybe some other aging players to see if they ever become unhappy with their situation. If you are managing in the Premier League with all the new TV money swirling around, a deal for him/other big names may be more achievable than you think.
Good luck and if you have some luck with it, let me know. Until next time, enjoy your Football Manager 2016 save whoever you are managing at the moment.
