Chat With Iain Macintosh - 'Football Manager Stole My Life'

Football Manager Stole My Life Do you need something to read while on summer vacation? Well then we got a great thing for you FM lovers. "Football Manager Stole My Life" book by Iain Macintosh, Kenny Millar and Neil White is a MUST READ for anyone who calls himself a True FM Fan.

Books out on August 10, so before the official release, we contacted one of the authors, Iain Macintosh, and had a little chat with him about the book and Football Manager in general. Here's what he had to say to our questions...

1. Can you introduce yourself a little bit and say a few words about yourself?
Iain Macintosh: My name is Iain Macintosh and I'm a Football Manager addict. I've bought and played every version of the game since the original Domark version with no real player names and a picture of an angry man on the box.

2. Tell us about the book, what can we expect from it?
Iain Macintosh: It's the complete story of Football Manager, the people who made it, the people who are in it and the people who play it. It's a book that says, "you are not alone."

3. How and when did you came up with an idea to do a book on FM?
Iain Macintosh: I always wanted to do one, but I couldn't find a publisher who wanted to print it. I saw that Backpage Press were doing one and I put a sad message on Twitter, regretting my failure to do it myself. An hour later, they contacted me and asked if I wanted to get involved. The answer was a very loud 'yes'.

4. We see names of Kenny Millar and Niel White on the cover, what was their contribution to the book?
Iain Macintosh: Neil White was the driving force, he tells the story of the game and he's been granted access to SI, Miles and the Collyer brothers, so it's straight from the horse's mouth. Kenny Millar has tirelessly tracked down the legends of the game, including the legendary Nii Lamptey. I've done the silly stuff, a huge feature on the world according to CM01/02 and I've also spoken to a psychologist about the effect of too much FM.

5. When was your first experience with the game?
Iain Macintosh: A friend of mine bought it first and he couldn't stop going on about it. I'd read reviews of it and they weren't too encouraging, not least because it didn't have real player names. I gave it a go and was staggered to see that it need 45 minutes to load. 45 MINUTES! It took about four and half minutes to see why it was going to change my life.

6. Whit whom was your longest managing campaign and what did you manage to achieve?
Iain Macintosh: I'm a terrible mercenary on FM, I'll always leave for a better job, I'll never stay and make a go of it. I think my longest tenure with one club was Southend in CM97/98 when I took them for seven seasons and won the UEFA Cup. I had a very good go on FM12 with England recently. The international management has improved immeasurably in the last couple of versions. I spent ages on that and won the Euros and the Olympics, falling short in the World Cup and buggering off to Dortmund.

7. Any players you just HAD to sign in every game?
Iain Macintosh: Mike Duff in CM01/02 was my favourite. £9k and he was the best RB in the game. Antoine Sibierski in FM07, the target man you could build a team around. Joel Matip in the new one. So quick, so strong. He won me the Champions League with Arsenal.

8. Your dream team in Football Manager would be...
Iain Macintosh: I had a great Newcastle side in FM07, with Sibierski and Owen making the ultimate big man/quick man partnership. I had Barnetta on one wing and Matt Jarvis on the other, Arturo Vidal as the destroyer, Dyer as the creator, Anton Ferdinand and Titus Bramble as a surprisingly solid defence, Nedum Onuoha on the right, Wayne Bridge on the left and Given in goal. Finsihed 2nd in the PL twice with them.

9. Tell us where can we grab a copy of your book?
Iain Macintosh: It's right here, it's available on all formats and it's out on August 10!

We would like to thank Iain for this little chat about his upcoming book. It's a nobrainer that this will be a huge hit among all FM fans. Grab your copy or even preorder it right now through this link PREORDER 'Football Manager Stole My Life'.
