Borussia Dortmund High Possession Classic 4-4-2 Tactic

After winning Bundesliga, German Cup and EURO Cup it's time for this tactic to finally go live. Just going to say this is one of my best works so far. If you like playing possessional football then you came to the right place, cause never against no one have I had a possession less than 65%. But I'm not talking about just holding the ball and doing nothing with it, no, I'm talking about quality possession, the kind with whom you create great chances throughout the entire match. Although this is not Barcelona Tiki Taka tactic, mainly because of the formation, it still is a an awesome attacking peace of play.

I guarantee that you'll make at least 6-7 clear cut chances, and with some luck, good finishing and composure striker, you're going to score some goals.

But enough about my opinion, here comes the complete review.

Team Instructions

Spoiler Alert :

Philosophy – Balanced ~ all players need to give their contribution in order for this tactic to work as it should.

Strategy – Attacking ~ I’m managing fairly strong team so I'v set my strategy to attacking. If managing LLC set this to standard.

Passing Style – Shorter ~ Highly important in order to have high possession.

Closing Down – Press More ~ You may risk to get more bookings, but I advise you to leave this as it is. If you do get lot’s of cards set it to Stand-Off More.

Roaming – Stick To Position ~ No Roaming for players. Everyone has a job in this tactic.

Defensive Line – Normal ~ Reduces the chance to be caught on the Counter Attack.

Width – Narrow ~ Great support for the player with the ball.

Tempo – Slow ~ Patiently create attacks and look for openings for through balls.

Time Wasting – Rarely ~ Change gradually once you get the lead.

Focus Passing – Through The Middle ~ Optional, also works well with other options.

Counter Attack – Yes ~ Set it to YES only if you have pacey players.

Play Offside – No ~ Again, if you have pacey defenders you can set this to YES.

Player Instructions

Spoiler Alert :

Goalkeeper – Defend ~ In order to have high possession set his Distribution to  Defender Collect. My goalkeeper cost me most of conceded goals, his Handling was really poor and shoots coming from 30 yards were a sure goal for my opponents. And this is also one of the reasons I set Closing Down to Press More, with this I managed to reduce shoots from Long Range.

Central Defenders – DCL (Defend) / DCR (Stopper) ~ You’ll have to download the tactic for more detailed instructions on how to play them.

Midfielder Left – Winger Support ~ You’ll have to download the tactic for more detailed instructions on how to play him.

Midfielder Right – Wide Midfielder Attack ~ You’ll have to download the tactic for more detailed instructions on how to play him.

Midfielders Central – MCL (Defend) / MCR (Advanced Playmaker Attack )  ~ You’ll have to download the tactic for more detailed instructions on how to play them.

Strikers – STCL (Trequartista) / STCR (Target Man or Poacher) ~ You’ll have to download the tactic for more detailed instructions on how to play them.

Match Preparation and Individual Training

Spoiler Alert :

In Pre Season: Set Focus Area on Teamwork with Workload set on Very High. This speeds up team getting used to the tactic.

During Season: Set Focus Area on Teamwork with Workload set on High. If you see that some parts of your game need to be improved set Focus Area to either Defending Positioning, Attacking Movement, Attacking Set Pieces or Defending Set Pieces.

Usually it takes 2-3 months before all boxes become fluid. By this time your team should be well blended and start producing some great results for you.

Individual Training: Set Strikers to train Place Shot, and set Midfielders to train Try Killer Balls Often.
